Seville War Memorial

The Seville War Memorial is a contemporary interpretation of ‘cenotaph’. Its elegant design is aimed at establishing a tourist attraction through an artistic and iconic marker for the Yarra Valley that acknowledges local service men and women.

The Memorial will tribute local Victoria Cross recipient George Ingram, list those who served, and acknowledge those who made the ultimate sacrifice. It will also map Seville’s past and present war memorials to geographically place it in a local historic context.

The design presents a glass art panel installation consisting of four tapered glass shards tilted at a 10 degree angle and set according to a 2.5m diameter circle at the base.  The shards will display artwork and information on both sides, providing an engaging visual impact from the Warburton Highway and Monbulk-Seville Road, and encouraging  visitors to walk around to experience the exterior as well as  entering the enclosed space to view and experience the finer detail of stories and information presented on each panel.  The Memorial is set on a 7m diameter stone base sited on axis between the mature Ash tree at the apex of the site and the large stone marker at the Seville Memorial Water play Park. 

The vision for interactive elements including mood lighting and technology for additional information will provide a significant attraction to add to the popular water play park and regional playground.
