'REFLECTIONS'
Quality landscape design for the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show.
The aim was to create an exhibit which demonstrated the importance of quality design and construction for the Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show. The design criteria was to be responsive to the urban environment and considerate of the natural environment.
Balancing of the landscape with the use of geometric forms was intended to create strong sightlines and direct views across the landscape, rather than restrict and minimise views. The softness of concentric landscape “ripples” and reflections of light from galvanised steel and glass allowed viewers to look at a real solution to a typical inner city garden.
The rear shards creatively screen neighbouring properties and camouflage undesired views. Materials were sourced locally using recycled or minimum processed properties. For example: permeable paving materials and locally quarried natural paving stones. The design uses colourful ripples of planting to focus the viewers attention on the sculpture.
